Scientific and Research Centre on Space Hydrometeorolgy "PLANETA" (SRC "PLANETA") -
Russian state organisation established since 1974.
SRC "PLANETA" is the leading organisation on the exploitation and development of Russian
hydrometeorological (METEOR, GOMS),
oceanographic (OKEAN-01, OKEAN-O ) ,
and earth resources observation (RESOURS) space systems,
as well as on operational data acquisition from the satellites of NOAA, METEOSAT, GMS,
SPOT and other series.
The primary objective of SRC "PLANETA" is to provide on an operational basis
the satellite data and related services that meet the requirements of national
hydrometeorolgical service, environment monitoring from space and hazards control.
The SRC "PLANETA" bases it's activity on an operational, scientific and methodological
management of the space data Ground data Receiving and Processing Complex. It’s major
components are three Primary Regional space data Receiving and Processing Centres at
different locations: in Obninsk (SRC’s «PLANETA» division), Novosibirsk and Khabarovsk
cities. The radiovisibility circles of these Centres cover the whole territory of Russia,
SIC and Baltic states and major part of Europe. The Ground data Receiving and Processing
Complex also includes the network of stationary and mobile users’ direct receiving stations
located all over the Russia, in Antarctic and on the marine vessels.
The SRC’s «PLANETA» Receiving Centres are equipped with a number of modern receiving
and transmitting systems supporting the different missions and serving many satellite
systems. These facilities now allow, in partucular, receiving high rate data from SPOT
satellites and in the future will allow handling the data streams of high density up to
128 Mbits/s from the next generation of RESOURS, SPOT, ERS, ENVISAT and other satellites.
The communication facilities of SRC «PLANETA» created on the basis of widespread network
of various communication channels (including a link through the satellite) enable a reliable
and operational transmission the information to the users and facilitate the data real-time
access.
Highly skilled personnel of SRC «PLANETA» (more than 300 persons) has an extensive
integrated practical experience in developing of wide range of various remotely sensed
data processing and themathic interpretation, as well as in design and creation of regional
and problem-oriented informational systems.

- global Earth and Ocean climatole research, national and international research
environmental programs,
- major risks control and management,
- monitoring of forests, water basins, ice cover, agriculture lands and other natural resources
and features,
- ecological monitoring and many other application programs
SRC «PLANETA» provides a comprehensive services on supply of both space data
and ready-to-use user oriented products:
- consulting the users, considering and conception the needs, collecting the orders
and compiling the feasible satellites programming requests
- planning the surveys and data transmission from the satellites to the Primary Centres
and users’ direct receiving stations, programming the satellites
- data acquisition· multilevel data processing on users’ requests
- data operational providing to the clients
- space data interpretation and themathic processing to derive ready-to-use products
- handling the operational data archives and particular data bases
- complete information sets supply for special purpose programs including various space
data accomplished by ground conventional observations, aerological, hydrological and
other measurements
- data collection from the DCP’s and re-transmission through the satellites
(ELECTRO, METEOSAT, GMS)
- users’ consulting and training on the space systems, data acquisition and
remotely sensed data applications.
